San Marino is home to one of the world’s greatest cultural, research, and educational centers the Huntington Library. A private, nonprofit institution, The Huntington was founded in 1919 by Henry E. Huntington, an exceptional businessman who built a financial empire that included railroad companies, utilities, and real estate holdings in Southern California. Huntington was also a man of vision – with a special interest in books, art, and gardens.

“I can say, with certainty, San Marcos is built on a foundation of dedicated, deep rooted, forward thinkers and doers.” - Nancy Tarsha, Bheau View Ranch

“San Marcos is nestled in a valley where the climate is perfect, the education system is superior, the cozy neighborhoods are friendly and safe, restaurants are plentiful and unique and the shopping is varied and convenient. The many miles of trails on the surrounding hills beckon hikers, bikers and horseback riders to scenic views and quiet solitude lookouts. The city promotes economic development and prosperity. Streets and signals are organized, so congestion is kept to a minimum. It is a clean, charming and well maintained town that I love coming home to!” - Linda Strand, President, Independent Energy Solutions, Inc.

“When my husband and I returned from Washington D.C. in 1989, we decided to sell our condo in San Diego and buy a home in San Marcos because we had such outstanding reports about this small city of 35,000. San Marcos has benefited from outstanding leadership from the city and community as it continues to grow and be the jewel of North County.” - Juanita Hayes, Public Affairs Manager with San Diego Gas and Electric

“We are so please to be working with San Marcos. They stand out among the crowd from top to bottom in terms of their understanding and execution of redeveloping the City and providing desperately needed quality affordable housing. Working together with the staff has been a wonderful experience and a total team effort. Their dedication to getting projects completed is exemplary, especially in light of the recent elimination of redevelopment agencies which has added to the complexity of accomplishing the same.” - Steve Bram, Opportune Housing

“Working with the City of San Marcos has been rewarding and productive. Our collaboration with the city has allowed us to produce over 150 award winning multifamily affordable apartments utilizing innovative products and original financial sources. We are very pleased with our relationship with the city as we consider the city and its staff to be among the most progressive in the State.” - Jim Silverwood, President of Affirmed Housing Group

“To me one of the great strengths of San Marcos has been the citizen involvement. Ordinary citizens have been invited and encouraged to participate in the decision-making process of government. The planning of both current projects and future of San Marcos have had strong and effective input from citizen committees ranging from traffic issues, the planning and design of parks and trails, to the design groundwork for the future downtown of San Marcos." - Kathleen Kildoo, Community Services Commission Chair

“We have always found the city to be well-run with a professional staff that takes a hands-on approach in working with businesses. The city‘s focus on the quality of development has created a vibrant community for businesses and residents. It’s a pleasure working with the City of San Marcos.” - Todd Cottle, Principal, C&C Development (Affordable Housing Developer)

“To me, the City of San Marcos has always made a commitment to the things that are important and to the various aspects that make the city strong, along with being a civic role model: education, smart-growth, fiscal responsibility, and of course nature, trails and open space. These are the values that truly make a community strong, vibrant, and healthy!” - Chris Cochran, Community Relations Manager, Stone Brewing Company
