Code Enforcement is an underappreciated function of local government that is near and dear to the hearts of many residents. Like most small communities, Ridgecrest lacked the resources to absorb code enforcement duties when the sole officer was unavailable. Under the supervision of the Chief of Police, citizen volunteers from the Police and Community Together (PACT) program were trained to supplement the efforts of full-time staff. This creative solution was implemented in response to a temporary situation and continues today as an enhancement that increases the capacity of local code enforcement activities.
Despite the challenges of taking on such a significant role with volunteers, Police Chief Ron Strand and his team have embraced the concept and used it as a reliable supplement until a more permanent solution can be found.
