Through its membership with the Northern California Power Agency, Lodi is one of the developers behind the Lodi Energy Center, a 280-megawatt natural gas-fired power plant located adjacent to the City’s wastewater plant. The Lodi Energy Center will be the most energy-efficient power plant of its kind in the United States when it goes online in the second half of 2012, delivering clean energy to Lodi and other public power agencies in California. NCPA had virtually no public opposition to the Lodi site, working closely with City officials to obtain abundant water and land for this important project. The process from application to licensing by the California Energy Commission took only 19 months. The Lodi Energy Center will provide low-cost power to participating utilities, cushioning ratepayers from spikes in wholesale energy prices.
