This former CalCompact landfill site has been undergoing remediation for the past two years to give way to the biggest mixed-use development in the region – the Boulevards at South Bay. This site has attracted various several uses over the years, including a potential home for an NFL Team.
When construction is completed on this 160 acre property, the Boulevards project will feature 1.5 million sq. ft. of retail space, hotels, a multi-screen movie theater, and more than 1,500 housing units. The project is expected to make Carson the South Bay’s shopping and entertainment destination. When completed, the property value of this former landfill will go from zero to $300 million, and is expected to generate an estimated amount of $9 million in property and sales tax per year.
Liners are currently being installed on the property site as part of the remediation process, and construction underway on the Landfill Gas Extractions Operations Center, which will monitor all the remedial systems on the site. The anticipated occupancy for the project is 2014.
