The City of Big Bear Lake recently completed a comprehensive City-wide street reconstruction program. Funded by the Improvement Agency, the Agency entered into a competitive and cost-effective major street construction contract with the Matich Corporation to reconstruct twenty-four (24) streets located in the redevelopment project areas. In addition to improving these streets, many had drainage issues to resolve as well. By instituting a rolled curb design, the overall integrity of the streets will last longer as curbs and gutters won’t experience as much damage from snow plow operations thereby reducing longer term maintenance and repair costs. Given the tough winter weather conditions, street maintenance and improvements are a constant and expensive undertaking and therefore should have significant long term savings in the annual maintenance budget. This aggressive program not only provides a significant portion of the City with new streets a new street design, but sends a positive message to residents and visitors alike that Big Bear Lake continues to invest in the future.
