San Marino is home to one of the world’s greatest cultural, research, and educational centers the Huntington Library. A private, nonprofit institution, The Huntington was founded in 1919 by Henry E. Huntington, an exceptional businessman who built a financial empire that included railroad companies, utilities, and real estate holdings in Southern California. Healthy Baldwin Park

Baldwin Park is an innovative leader in the adoption of healthy policy for its community, collaboration with a very active and engaged community, and participation of community youth, residents and non-profit organizations. Non-profit organizations have resulted in implementing numerous policies and programs to improve the health of its residents. Baldwin Park is an innovative leader in the adoption of healthy policy for its community. In July 2011, the City of Baldwin Park was represented at the White House in Washington, D.C., as First Lady, Michelle Obama announced commitments to expand access to healthy, affordable food. In 2012, the City received a grade “A” from the American Lung Cancer Association for its tobacco control efforts. Baldwin Park is one of 12 cities in California to receive this coveted distinction.

In addition to adopting a No-Smoking Ordinance relating to City facilities/parks, and general public areas affected by secondhand smoke, Baldwin Park is doing its part in helping fight childhood obesity, such as adoption of a Healthy Minds Initiative, adoption of a healthy eating active living resolution, and partnered with health organizations, schools and community members to create social change and reduce childhood obesity. The City of Baldwin Park was the first city to adopt an ordinance in California ensuring that in city-sponsored youth facilities, 100% of food/beverages sold must comply with State nutrition standards required for schools. The City of Baldwin Park has partnered with Healthy Eating Active Communities (HEAC), California Center for Public Health Advocacy (CCPHA), and “People on the Move”, to help show how communities can reshape the physical activity environment and allow for healthy eating choices to improve children's health, and reduce obesity and diabetes. These efforts have resulted in significant improvements in the BMI index for City youth.
