Known as “The Friendly City”, the City of Rohnert Park is located in the heart of Sonoma Wine Country on US-Highway 101. Rohnert Park was incorporated in 1962, and is home to approximately 41,000 people, Sonoma State University, and the award winning Foxtail Golf Course. As one of the first planned communities, Rohnert Park has been developed with a coordinated system of bike trails and paths, schools, and parks in every neighborhood. Residents enjoy sweeping views of Sonoma and Taylor Mountains, preserved from development forever. Over 50 restaurants, both nationally known and home-grown, offer sumptuous choices from a variety of cultural cuisines. Rohnert Park’s Sonoma Mountain Village is the first One Planet Community in North America –– a model of sustainable development for generations to come. Minutes from popular tourism venues including hundreds of local wineries, the Pacific Ocean, and giant redwoods, Rohnert Park is also just a short drive away from exciting San Francisco. Comprehensive tourism information is available at www.sonomacounty.com.
The City of Rohnert Park takes pride in building community, both in the physical and social sense, and in its commitment to economic development, environmentalism, and resident communication. Successes include construction of a sustainable City Center Plaza with a town-center appeal, streamlining of the business permitting and development review processes, and implementation of a variety of business-stimulation and business-marketing initiatives. Communication with residents has been increased through utility bill inserts, increased internet presence, and development and posting of the city’s first Strategic Business Plan, and community participation has been broadened to include an expanded Adopt-a-Park program.
Not just growing older, Rohnert Park is growing better all the time.
