Today Fontana is the newcomer on “Strong Cities | Strong State.” This city about 50 miles east of Los Angeles plays home to almost 200,000 proud residents. The City of Fontana has received numerous accolades, including the 2008 Award for 100 Best Communities for Families by Best Life Magazine and 2010 Award for 100 Best Communities for Young from the America’s Promise Alliance.
Fontana’s success stories include the following:
• After-School Programs: Fontana’s After-School Programs provide an opportunity to merge school reform strategies with community resources to broaden the base of support within the city for education in a safe, constructive environment.
• Fontana Leadership Intervention Program: Several youth in Fontana have “flipped” their lives around, thanks to a new intervention program. The Fontana Leadership Intervention Program (F.L.I.P.) helps at-risk youth in Fontana bring about positive and lasting changes in their lives. Started in 2010 the F.L.I.P.
• Chaffey College Partnership: To help bring more academic opportunities to our residents, the City of Fontana has partnered with Chaffey College to expand the College’s Fontana campus with over 40,000 square feet of new classrooms and laboratories, lecture hall, library and student lounge.
