Incorporated on January 20, 1923, South Gate is the sixteenth largest city in Los Angeles County and encompasses 7.5 square miles. South Gate’s success stories include the following:
• Certified ASA Azalea City and Azalea Festival: On October 26, 2006, the Azalea Society of America certified the City of South Gate, California, as an ASA Azalea City.
• Gold Level in Energy Efficiency: In December, 2011, the City of South Gate was recognized by Southern California Edison Company (SCE) for its accomplishments in energy reduction and long-term energy planning.
• Investment in South Gate Park: The construction at South Gate Park is under way and soon South Gate residents will be able to enjoy significant recreational improvements.
